The Hoodview Handyman Story

We aren’t some national chain with sleek branding and no personality. We aren’t a high school student trying to make a few extra bucks with his dad’s tools. We are a local handyman outfit doing things the right way for our neighbors. We want our community looking its best. We want our friends and family to be proud of their city. And we want to help people with our skills and passion.

Our mission is to promote healthy and happy communities by preserving and creating high-quality buildings. We started from the belief that our homes and communities should be strong, beautiful, and well-maintained. Not a crazy concept, right? Unfortunately, there’s a problem…

The buildings we live in are in trouble. There are fewer skilled tradespeople these days than ever before, but our buildings aren’t getting any younger. New houses are being built for speed and profit, not strength and quality. Most homeowners don’t understand how common building systems work, so they cannot maintain their own homes. The result? Our buildings are falling apart and it’s getting harder to fix them. Instead of taking care of our homes, we get used to the idea that we should just “upgrade” to a newer, bigger, better house (with a mortgage attached).

But what if we stop leaving behind used-up houses that stand vacant because nobody wants to fix them? What if we take care of what we have, or even improve it? First-time homebuyers would find decent living conditions, even in small towns. Renters would have good relationships with their landlords. Neighborhood streets would look nicer. Residents would feel safe and comfortable in their own homes.

Does this sound too far-fetched? We don’t think so, and we are working hard to achieve our goal and build our community (literally!). We hope to see you soon, on the job or at the park. After all, we live here too.

The Owner’s Story

Timothy, Owner

My name is Timothy. I’m the owner of Hoodview Handyman, and I started this work because I love using simple tools to make beautiful and functional spaces. I have also moved about 20 times over the years, so I’ve seen a wide variety of buildings and neighborhoods.

I served in the Army as an Infantry officer, so I know how to perform under stress. I worked remotely for the State of Washington for years in a high-stakes software project, so I know what it means to rely on your home as your office. I’ve rented and owned homes, so I understand the stresses and demands of real estate maintenance. I’ve trained in timber framing, cob building, and permaculture, and I converted a 40-foot school bus into a motorhome and lived in it, so I can handle unusual projects that most wouldn’t tackle.

When you work with me, you’ll meet a real person who lives in and cares about your community. I might run into you at the grocery store, my kids might ride their bikes past your house, and my wife might get her hair cut next to you. When that happens, we’ll both know that I did good work for you.
